As we drove along I-40 between Flagstaff and Petrified Forest National Park, I noticed Winslow, Arizona not too far off the highway. I thought it would be a novelty to stop by and stand on the corner there. It was apparent upon our arrival in town that they expect many people to come and do just that!

We got to breakfast at our hotel as soon as it was open and hit the road as soon as we could in order to make the most of the daylight that we have available. It took just over two hours for us drive from Flagstaff to the Painted Desert Visitor Center off of I-40.
Drive from Sedona through Oak Creek Canyon
After our time hiking to Devil’s Bridge, we took 89A north out of Sedona to get to our accommodations in Flagstaff. We took this route last year on our family spring break on our way back north from Jerome, but ran out of daylight and could not even remotely appreciate the scenery that we were driving through.

We had a dozen hikes lined up as options for the day that we passed through Sedona. Once we saw that most of this hike could be done with a 4WD vehicle, we thought it would be a fun place to see what the our rented Jeep could do!
